A Pest Free Home Starts at The Studs

As a home builder, you want to make sure that you are building safe and sturdy homes for the families who will eventually live in them. In order to build those types of homes, you have to make sure the foundation of the home is free from any flaws. You need to use the best quality wood there is, the right studs, the right nails and screws etc. If your materials are not the best, then your home will not be the best.

Pest control for residential homes is the same way. Many pest problems that pop up in new homes could have been avoided if proper preventive measures were taken at the start of construction. Here are some pest control methods you can make use of when you start construction on new homes.

Inspect the Area
When you choose where to build new houses, make sure you have a pest control professional come out to inspect the area. A pest control professional will be able to see if the land has any pest or rodent problems.

Rodents such as moles, voles, and chipmunks make their nests underground. At first glance, it may seem like the land is not infested with these critters when in actuality, it is. This is why it is important to do a thorough inspection above ground and underground. If it turns out that there are rodents and other pests underground, a pest control professional can take care of the problem before construction begins. By taking care of the problem before construction, you will not experience any problems during construction and the new homeowners will not have to deal with the vermin when they move in.

Invest in Termite Pre-Treatment
If you’re building a home, chances are wood will be a major component in the construction of the home. Termites are known to feed on wood. A termite problem can often start when the home is being constructed. This is why it is recommended to pre-treat the wood that goes into the house with pre-treatment solutions. Pre-treatment is a great way to prevent future problems because a lot of pre-treatment solutions can last up to 12 years! Getting the pre-treatment done while the home is in construction is definitely worth it.

Schedule Regular Inspections for Every Phase of Construction
This might seem a bit too much, but it is a preventive measure that is very well worth with. Not only will the construction process become smoother, but regularly inspecting each step for pests will also make for very happy homeowners.

With every phase of construction, you will be dealing with different materials; different materials can come with their own pest problems. For example, sometimes concrete can be susceptible to rat infestations, wood can become infested by termites, mice can chew through the electrical cables, bugs can be hidden in the carpet etc.

Conducting an inspection on all materials used during each phase of construction is a great way to prevent pest infestations from happening. If you find out that there is a pest problem before the next phase of construction begins, you can take care of the problem right then and there as opposed to discovering the problem halfway through one of the phases. Regular inspections can save you time and money and will instill trust in your brand from future homeowners.
